PressenzaHiroshima, 08/07/09The President of Mayors for Peace and Mayor of Hiroshima, Tadatoshi Akiba, expressed his discontent regarding North Korea´s plans to build a nuclear arsenal. A day after North Korea vowed to start enriching uranium for new atomic weapons, Akiba declared to the international press that, “This is a grave challenge for the international community, which can never be forgivable”.
The UN Security Council called for sanctions over the country´s nuclear tests voting unanimously for tougher sanctions both on the nuclear tests and the North Korean ballistic missile programmes.The North Korean government has declared that the UN sanctions are “US-inspired” and that any attempt to blockade their programme would be treated as an act of war.
