As an unfortunate development is seen the resignation of Nepal's Prime Minister

Sudhir Gandotra

The healing of the nation stands as a priority and this means integrating the Maoist Army with the National Army.

PressenzaKathmandu, 06/05/09Humanist International views the resignation of Shri Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prachanda, Honourable Prime Minister of Nepal in Kathmandu, Nepal, as an unfortunate development.

Understanding that the healing of the nation still stands as a priority and that this means integrating the Maoist Army with the National Army. It was never going to be an easy task and if civilian rule is to be paramount, as a democratic system demands, then like it or not, the military has to bend to the will of the people as expressed through it’s elected government.

We earnestly make known our stand on this issue of walk-out from parliament and encourage Prachanda and his Party to return to parliament and struggle in that arena for a practical outcome and the continuation of the political processes launched in the heady but realistically attuned early days of governance.
